The 2025 Forum on Cross-Straits Charity was jointly launched by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party's Social Development and Service Committee, Xiamen University, and several Taiwan-based philanthropic organizations in Xiamen, a coastal city of East China's Fujian province, on June 14. Li Bin, Vice-Chairperson of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Chairperson of the CSCLF, attended and addressed the cross-Straits charity forum.
Themed "Joining Hands in Public Welfare Affairs and Creating a Future", the cross-Straits charity forum consisted of two parallel sub-forums, which featured "a Shared Journey of Social Work: Building Dream Together" and "Intelligent Connection across the Taiwan Strait: Safeguarding the Future", and held baseball exchange activity among youth from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
It drew the attendance of over 200 representatives, volunteers, experts and scholars from 63 social organizations across the Taiwan Strait. Twenty-two speakers gave their speeches over such topics as the building of the future via charity and the promotion of healthy growth of children and teenagers on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
In her address, Li said that the cross-Straits charity forum's mission to promote public welfare with concerted efforts for the interest of the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait has become widely recognized. She emphasized that philanthropy has developed into an important carrier to convey warmth and further deepen the belief that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are members of one and the same family.
Li asked the cross-Straits charity forum to promote positive energy, forge social consensus through philanthropic spirit, expand new areas, respond to challenges with public welfare strength, underscore the guidance of children and teenagers, and fully leverage the functions of philanthropic convictions in the stimulation of youth's enthusiasm.
Zhang Zongyi, President of Xiamen University, extended a warm welcome to all attendees across the Taiwan Strait. He said that the philanthropic and charitable culture in the new era has embodied the common aspiration of people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait for a better life and rallied strength from them toward goodness.
Zhang called on delegates at the cross-Straits charity forum to make greater contributions to writing a new chapter of cross-Straits philanthropic integration.
Wu Jinxi, Vice-Chairperson of the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that Xiamen is dedicated to further strengthening the convergence and integration of philanthropic strength across the Taiwan Strait. He emphasized that the city will grasp the cross-Straits charity forum as a new starting point, take consistent efforts in nurturing philanthropic strength among the youth and deepening community integration, and strive for a beautiful future.
Representatives of Taiwanese hosting organizations agreed that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are members of one and the same family and that the cherished practices of helping the weak and relieving those in distress, bewailing the times and showing pity to the people in the Chinese culture has been a guiding principle and an important source of strength of the cross-Straits charity forum. They noted that they will join hand to build a cross-Straits "bridge" with personal wisdom, nurture philanthropy into a bacon of unity, and realize national rejuvenation.
Speaking at the main forum, Wang Weiguo, President of the China Next-Generation Education Foundation, and other delegates across the Taiwan Strait presented their thematic reports titled "Promoting Family-School-Society Collaborative Education through Philanthropic Strength" and "Community Development and Youth Growth" respectively. With sufficient data and vivid cases, they talked about cross-Straits charity education, youth development, the advancement of social work, and the improvement of children and teenagers' humanistic and psychological literacy.
At the sub-forum, 17 delegates across the Taiwan Strait shared practical experiences and personal insight on the utilization of "public welfare plus social work" in social governance and technological empowerment for children and teenagers' healthy growth.
Those in attendance of the opening ceremony and relevant activities of the cross-Straits charity forum also included Zhang Zhijun, President of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits; Huang Ruxin, Chairperson of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPPCC; Zhang Guowang, Chairperson of the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the CPPCC; Zhang Jiming, Vice-Chairperson of the CSCLF; Shi Yun, Vice-Director of the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party's Social Development and Service Committee; and representatives of Taiwanese hosting organizations.
Since its establishment in 2013, the cross-Straits charity forum has firmly adhered to its founding mission, drawn the participation of over 100 institutions and 4,000 delegates, invited more than 200 individuals to share their philanthropic stories, received the coverage of over 100 media outlets across the Taiwan Strait, and become an important platform for promoting cross-Straits civil exchanges and expanding public welfare cooperation.
